Bulgaria is planning to introduce the Standard Audit File for Tax (SAF-T) for the electronic exchange of tax data with the VAT authorities.

This will apply to all companies doing business in Bulgaria, so both established as well as non-resident companies with a Bulgarian VAT number.

The plan is to introduce the SAF-T in phases, depending on the size of the businesses, most likely starting with large taxpayers in 2025.

More information will be published by the Bulgarian authorities in 2024, including the starting date, legal framework and how to report the data.
